This Brig guy needs to get out more.

A list of "former Suns players who are dead to me?" Calling Phil Jackson the devil, and all L.A. fans "plastic" and "useless"? "Selling your immortal soul" to a franchise that's evil and would destroy all mankind?

Seriously, dude, it's just a game. Chill with the drama.

That said, the Suns aren't a threat anymore. The Shaq trade ruined their chnace to be relevant last season, and effectively killed any shot of being good this season or next. I actually giggled when I'd heard they'd made that deal. Talk about an albatross.

There's a reason D'Antoni left. It was the sound of a window slamming shut the moment Kerr made a deal no other owner or GM would have made.

The Suns biggest weakness to me is they don't have anybody at the 2 or 3 who can be counted on to score 15-20 pts a game. Give the Suns a Mike Miller and they'd be contenders.

They're still pinching pennies as evidenced by the Strawberry for Singletary trade w/Houston. Strawberry would have given them a pretty good defender and in time make Bell available for trade-like to Portland for one of their SFs.

BTW,for a peaceful camp, there is alot going on w/the Lakers. Wonder if Phil is seeing signs of complacency and is trying to stop it before it takes root.

Great post. Highly informative, too.

Kinda makes me wonder though, how big 'chemistry' really plays into things. If athletes were like normal people, you'd figure they'd be professional about such things, but I guess being 'professional' has totally different meanings once in the NBA.

At any rate, my short list of former Laker players who are dead to me are ... well, not even sure if Shaq and Horry qualify here since both (in my opinion) were worth more to us than they cost us.

Lastly, my 'hatred' for the suns stem from the fact that they're basically what I wished the Lakers to be when we were missing/exiting in the first round. Fun, carefree, running team. Now that we have something that works, I don't think I'll be hating them anymore.

"He is now lumped in with Sam Cassell, Robert Horry, Jason Kidd, Joe Johnson, Michael Finley, Stephon Marbury and AC Green - former Suns players who are dead to me."

Wow, good news for Marion! All those guys except for Marbury peaked once they left the Suns, with several getting titles or playing in the finals.

I think the Suns will hover around the 7th or 8th spot. I just can't see Nash being effective with Shaq. Shaq is the anti-Nash, and as good as Amare can be, it was the brilliance of Nash in D'Antoni's system that made the Suns so effective. Alot of Steve nash's success came with the the new no-touch rules, and his ability to roam around the floor. Now, because of Shaq being in his way, defenders will clamp down a bit more and not let him dribble wherever he wants. They will no longer be able to overcome defensive deficiencies by flat-out out-scoring teams. They may rebound better now, but i suspect that's because they will be missing more also.

Reed (or anyone else), any idea what shape the Phoenix offense will take. I would think they will still run when they can, but what about in the half court?

I think at 100% the Suns are a threat, but here's how I see things shaking out — they start out fast, but get a key injury around Christmas that costs Nash/Shaq a month, the team slips and finishes in as a sixth seed. Then they draw somebody they just can't beat in the first round.

They can beat anybody on the right night, but I just don't fear them in a series anymore.

The tone was set for the Suns in 1969, when they lost a coin flip to Milwaukee for the #1 pick in the draft, a center from UCLA who wore #33.
