Chris J,

NBATV was the problem. You will normally be able to see any game on League Pass (since you are in Las Vegas) other then nationally televised games (NBATV, ABC, ESPN, TNT).

As for the quality of the presentation on League Pass' broadband broadcast, it has improved from last year's service in leaps and bounds. First, Mac users have the same service as PC users. Second, you can watch three games on the screen at once (One larger screen and two small ones) and can switch between the audio by clicking on the screen you are interested in. You can also click on tabs that allow you to see players' stats. The process of selecting the game or games you would like to watch is simple and you can easily switch between games. There are more nice little bells and whistles but those are the important ones. When I replace my Mac I'll plop down the extra few hundred dollars and get a bigger screen. That way I could even forgo the TV subscription if need be and just go broadband.

Chris J - The online blackout could be related to the fact that the Mavs-Lakers game was playing on NBATV, a national cable channel.

It was great to see how much Ariza has come along. I really think he has improved tremendously from last year. The second unit also kept us in the game when things looked bad - which is very different than last year.

One thing I am VERY worried about is Fisher. I've been keeping my eye on him and I think his mid range shot is not as effective as last year. Also, he continues with his tendency to go for the long range jumper/three pointer on a 2 on1 or 3 on 2 fast break. I'm probably over reacting, but I think its worthwhile to keep an eye on this. Perhaps the final roster spot may be taken by a third option (and cheap) PG.

I'm going to vent here and see if anyone else shares my opinion on a matter that one would think the NBA would have solved a while ago.

I live in Las Vegas, so watching road games via KCAL is not an option. While on NBA.com yesterday, I noticed that they were offering a free trial of the site's online game coverage through last night's NBA schedule. I decided to sign on for the free trial in order to watch the Mavs game, and perhaps decide if this Web service was worth a full-time subcription to catch the road games I'd otherwise miss. (Home games are covered by FSN West, thank God.)

When I went to watch the game, I was told it was subject to blackout restrictions and was thus unavailable.

The game was in Texas so it wasn't like I'd be shortchanging the ratings of a Dallas-based broadcast if I watched online, nor would I be missing KCAL's feed. Neither was an option. Yet somehow, someway I was denided the chance to see this game online.

That makes me question what other games would be subject to blackout, which ultimately led me to pass on paying for the online subscription since I have no clue what I'd be getting in exchange for that money.

Has anyone else dealt with this? You'd think in today's day and age they'd want to maximize revenue and would make all games open to the Internet. Guess not.
