When it’s all said and done and he hangs up his sneakers to “lay on the beach and get fat”, Kobe Bryant’s legacy will be undisputed. He’s already considered one of the all-time great players and he only continues to build upon his impressive resume as his career advances. Last night in scoring 23 points against the Chicago Bulls , Kobe Bryant passed John Havlicek to become the 11th leading scorer in NBA history. His career point total now sits at 26,397 and in passing Hondo he also now holds the distinction as the highest scoring player to tally all his points with a single franchise. Quite a feat accomplished by #24. So on a day that we’re all a bit frustrated at how the team is performing, why don’t we sit back and enjoy the exploits of one of the all time great players. He’s achieved several milestones already, but we all know there are more to come.

this one’s for WARREN!!
(oh, not a pre-game post… nevermind)
can someone list the ten still ahead of him?
is Shaq in that group?
I imagine the day Kobe passes Shaq’s points will be something he does celebrate!

#1. Shaq is currently 5th all time at 28,434 – which is about 3 thousand behind Wilt.

Is Kobe going to be in 5th place after this year? Pretty awesome to see him climb the list like this…it’s almost like he’s moving backward through history as we relive what some of the all-time greats have done while Kobe brushes past them.
I saw Jordan play while never being a Jordan fan or hater, so as I watched him do the things that he did it was with a critical eye. He was amazing in so many ways, but I don’t think that he was the greatest ever. That title should go to Kareem I think or maybe Magic although I am a little biased here.
Kobe’s story isn’t finished yet, but when it’s all said and done he will be one of the greatest to ever lace em up. Can you ask for more when determining the GOAT is so damn subjective?
KenOak says
Wow,
Just did some calculating and it looks like Kobe will nudge out Moses and just be behind Shaq by season’s end!

just pause the end of that video it has the list of the top 12

Say what you want about Arest on offense… but he is the ONLY guy on our team playing any defense. I know I am the only guy here who values defense as much as offense (its half the game right?) but Lamar Odom cost us the Bulls game. And that is why stats are silly… because they just cover one end of the floor. We lost because Lamar couldn’t gaurd Boozer and we needed to double team. The one time Artest, a SF was guarding Boozer he stripped him of the ball. I know defense is a talent… but Lamar needs to do something about his one on one D. Or we can’t afford to have him play against an offensive option.

Say what you must regarding Kobe: He’s selfish, he doesn’t pass the ball, he got Shaq traded, he’s a criminal, he’s not a good team mate, and he’s hard on the players.
When what’s said is said, one can not disregard the fact that Kobe Bean Bryant is one heck of a basketball player. Arguably, the best in my life time (it would have been Earvin “Magic” Johnson, but he was forced to retire).
Here’s to Kobe’s health and at least two more championships before he retires. And, hopefully a move to no. 3 or 4 on the all time scoring list.
Hey, if he does move to 3 or 4 fine, if he doesn’t that’s fine, too!
Simply the best ========>> Kobe!

Be nice if Boston, San Antonio, Miami or Dallas lost a game.

I hope Bynum comes back and plays like a man possessed. His absence is costing us wins that we may not be able to make up in the race for HCA.

8- I’m with you. It wouldn’t be as hard to stomach these losses if those other top teams would lose too. But such is an 82 game season. The Lakers double digit win streak is coming (I hope).
jodial says
I know it’s worrisome to be falling behind in the race for HCA, and no fun to see our rivals steamrolling through their schedules, but I don’t ever remember the Lakers winning a title by peaking in December.

yes, aaron, you are the only guy here who values defense as much as offense. congrats!

Sorry for the delay, but the game preview is up.

And Kobe is quickly closing in on the #1 position for field goals missed. He’ll hit the #1 in missed FG way before he hits #1 in points. 44% = not good.

There will always be haters, disguised as statistics lovers, Miami band-wagoners,or just snide jealous people.
When all said and done,Kobe will be one of the best to ever grace hardwood.Michael&Kobe will be standing alone on the summit as A and B.
So stoke the fire some more please.
