Nike has labeled April 13th “Mamba Day” in celebration of Kobe Bryant’s last game of his career. They’re dropping commemorative shoes and will surely have more product for your consumption as the day rolls around.
They have also released a great video with their signature athletes (and others, including Phil Jackson) talking about Kobe, telling stories, and describing him in a single word. It’s a great clip. Check it out below.
History is written one word at a time.
Join us and tell Kobe your last word. #MambaDay https://t.co/ffrHhYEbBthttps://t.co/MGlxKJlIcj— Nike Basketball (@nikebasketball) April 10, 2016
There’s only 3 games left in Kobe’s career, including today’s machup with the Rockets. Kobe and the Lakers can play spoiler one last time today — a Lakers’ win eliminates the Rockets from the playoffs — and again on the 13th against the Jazz where a win could mean disrupting playoff seeding.
A disappointing season has tarnished Kobe’s last run through the league, but as the clip above notes, it’s done little to affect his legacy or how he’ll be remembered. Whether they loved him or hated him, his peers, both in and out of basketball, respected his approach to the game and the accomplishments that path traveled produced.

Lakers future looks unpromising, with the development of these rookies, who on the defensive end couldn’t guard the pelicans, and are getting blown out by everyone, also they are the worst shooting team in the league. It’s very sad to see, and with no foreseeable way to fix the mess the franchise looks like it’s headed nowhere.

I am sure many of us will be sharing thoughts about KB over the next few days and I look forward to hearing them. My own at the moment is that even with the rough landing, I feel that it was Mission Accomplished for him. I think that I might not feel that way had the team lost Game 7 of the 2010 Finals–but they didn’t.

Regarding Walton, the rumor is that the Suns are after him and D’Antoni as well.
They have a better shot at D’Antoni imo, though I wonder if he would consider returning to that furnace in the rocks after tasting the mega venues?

I think dantoni will be head coach for the 76ers since new gm hire.
