In the latest episode of the Laker Film Room Podcast, Pete and I welcome Spectrum Sportsnet sideline reporter and Lakers.com writer/podcaster/do-it-all maven Mike Trudell as our guest.
Mike offers us his perspective on all things Lakers, specifically getting into the team’s road trip and how young players handle all that comes with leaving the friendly confines of Staples for these long stretches, whether the Lakers strong defense to start the season is for real, and the stylistic disconnect of how Luke Walton wants to play offensively with how this team — ranked 28th in offensive efficiency — is currently performing on that end.
We also touch on Julius Randle’s strong play this season and get Mike’s impressions on whether Randle, a pending restricted free agent, will be a member of the Lakers beyond this year (or even past the trade deadline).
Lastly, we talk about Kyle Kuzma and how he’s surprised everyone by surpassing all expectations for a player drafted #27 overall. Mike recently sat down with Kuzma for an excellent interview, so he shares some of what he learned about the Flint, Michigan product and how Kuzma’s upbringing fueled his path to the NBA.
A special thanks to Mike for his time and insights. We hope you’ll give the entire episode a listen below.
