In this episode of the Laker Film Room Podcast, Pete and I are joined by special guest Coach Gibson Pyper to talk about Frank Vogel’s offensive playbook and how it applies to the Lakers current roster.
A key part of our discussion focuses on Coach Pyper’s video breakdown of Vogel’s offensive sets, both from his time with the Pacers and his tenure with the Magic. So, if you have not watched that, make the effort to do so either before or after you listen to the pod.
Over the course of our conversation, we get into LeBron James’ role in how the offense will go, how a team heavy with big men playmakers like Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins fit into this scheme, how Danny Green and KCP could be featured players in these sets, and more. Pyper also gets into how he thinks Kyle Kuzma might be used and why he thinks Davis and Cousins might end up being used more as floor spacers than their history of success as interior threats might suggest.
All in all this was a very informative conversation and one I think Lakers fans can find insightful, not only from an X’s and O’s standpoint but from a viewpoint of someone who is always looking at the game from a coach’s lens. You can listen to the full pod below.
