In this episode of the Laker Film Room Podcast, Pete and I riff on the idea that there’s a “great team in there somewhere” in the lead up to this Lakers season.
The general concept is that this Lakers team has the right ingredients to make an extended post season run, but so much will come down to whether the coaches can put the players in the right positions to succeed and whether the role players will be able to perform in high leverage situations.
While I highlighted the role players above, we begin our discussion with an exploration of the LeBron James/Anthony Davis pick and roll as a foundational offensive action and whether the team can depend on that as a go-to play throughout the regular season and into the playoffs. We go back and forth about the latter, particularly because of the tougher defenses and how the repetitive nature of a 7-game series can lead to the opposition taking away what you do best.
We further the discussion of playoff success by talking about what types of teams might give the Lakers problems and whether there are specific matchups that offer concern and why.
We also hit on the coaching and what we see as some of the more important things Frank Vogel will need to get right throughout the year in order to get the best out of this group.
All in all this was a good discussion that we hope you enjoy. You can listen to the full episode below:
