Laker Film Room Podcast: How Eliminating Illegal Defense Changed the NBA

May 14, 2020 by Darius Soriano

laker film room podcast lebron james post up illegal defense

In this episode of the Laker Film Room Podcast, Pete and I discuss the rule change that eliminated the illegal defense after the 2001 NBA season, essentially allowing teams to play zone defense.

More specifically, we talk about the history of the original illegal defense rule, why changing the rule was important, how the change played out on the floor, and the subsequent evolution the game has seen in the aftermath of the change.

Really enjoyed nerd-ing out with Pete on this topic and hope you enjoy the discussion too. You can listen to the full episode below.
