In this episode of the Laker Film Room Podcast, Pete and I start our Lakers roster preview by talking about the Lakers big men.
Using the premise of the Lakers big men as playmakers and shot creators as a jumping off point, we take a deep dive into Anthony Davis’ game, specifically his ability to create shots for himself and others. That transitions nicely into how Davis’ game will mesh with LeBron’s and how their potential synergy can create difficult choices for the defense.
We then get into DeMarcus Cousins and how he might help the team as both a scorer and a passer. Cousins’ proclivity to turn the ball over is discussed as a key concern and Pete also gets into how a crucial part of Cousins’ success next season will be his ability to recapture the 3-point shot as a weapon in his arsenal. Overall, we both agree that Cousins can be a major help, but caution against the team going into the season relying on him too much because of his injury history.
This took us to the close of our the pod and our discussion of JaVale McGee. We get into his fit next to Anthony Davis and, ultimately, the question of how much floor time McGee could end up seeing considering the Cousins acquisition and Davis’ ability to play center.
Overall, this was a great discussion and a reminder of how much the Davis trade can impact this team next year. Exciting times for the Lakers are ahead. Give the full episode a listen below.
