The Lakers season starts today…kinda. Preseason games are always a bit wonky, but especially the first one. Add in the Lakers are helping the Warriors christen their brand new arena and the vibe for this one is bound to feel a little different. I’m not sure if we should expect excitement, some nerves, or just the general sloppiness that comes with these sorts of games.
Anyway, there is a game. And it starts in a bout 7 minutes from the time I’m typing this. The Lakers will start Avery Bradley and Danny Green in the backcourt with LeBron, Anthony Davis, and JaVale in the front court. Pregrame, Frank Vogel said he’s planning on trying out a bunch of different combinations, but I’m encouraged by this one being the first one he wants a look at.
As for the Warriors, they’re banged up and down a bunch of big men. Willie Cauley-Stein is injured and Looney is banged up. Before the game Steve Kerr said that they’re considering signing another big even if it’s just for an extra body in training camp for drills and scrimmages.
In any event, I’m not trying to take too much away from this game. This is a “feel ’em out” game if I ever saw one and I’m mostly just seeing if guys can be on the same page, hit some shots, and not do anything egregious on defense. If they can do those things, all while staying healthy, count this as a win regardless of what the scoreboard says.
Enjoy the game ya’ll, the Lakers are back. Let’s get it.
